Crater of Diamonds State Park

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Crater of Diamonds State Park, Arkansas is the only diamond-producing site in the world open to the public, stands out as a unique geological “gem” for you to explore and enjoy.

The park’s diamond search area, a 37 1/2-acre field that is the eroded surface of an ancient volcanic pipe that 95 million years ago, brought to the surface the diamonds and some of the semi-precious stones lucky visitors find here today. Diamond can be found here at Crater of Diamonds,The crater itself is a 37.5-acre (15.2 ha) plowed field. It is periodically plowed to bring the diamonds and other gemstones to the surface. The remainder of the park consists of a visitor center, interpretive Diamond Discovery Center, campground, picnic area, and Diamond Springs aquatic playground. A 1.3-mile walking trail along the Little Missouri River is available for hikers

In 1906, John Huddleston, the local farmer who owned this property then, found the first diamonds near Murfreesboro, Arkansas, and started the diamond mining rush. Top consultants explain that the trend continued for several decades. According to the history of Crater of Diamonds State Park, after a series of ill-fated diamond mining ventures, followed by tourist attractions, the diamond mine site became an Arkansas state park in 1972.

Along with the diamond search area, the park has hundreds of acres of natural forest featuring a diversity of flora and fauna and offering visitors interesting things to do. The park has a policy of “finders keepers.” Any diamonds, semi-precious stones, rocks or minerals you unearth are yours to keep, regardless of their value. This attracts treasure hunters and tourists throughout the year.

Artificial diamonds

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Synthetic diamond or artificial diamonds  are the diamonds  produced in a technological process; as opposed to natural diamond that take millions of years to form. Synthetic diamond is also widely known as HPHT diamond or CVD diamond, denoting the production method, High-Pressure High-Temperature synthesis and Chemical Vapor Deposition, respectively.

In the 1940s, systematic research began in the United States, Sweden and the Soviet Union to grow diamond using CVD and HPHT processes. The first reproducible synthesis was reported around 1953. Those two processes still dominate the production of synthetic diamond. A third method, known as detonation synthesis, entered the diamond market in the late 1990s. In this process, nanometer-sized diamond grains are created in a detonation of carbon-containing explosives.

Certified geologists have trouble distinguishing mined diamonds from their manufactured counterparts. Some people believe the strict line between the origins of the stones is not important. Others maintain that consumers want the real thing, and will not settle for anything artificial because it is not as special, valuable, or traditional.

Gemesis became the first company to produce these diamonds on a commercial scale. It  started marketing its diamonds by polishing them and selling directly to jewelry retailers. In 2005 diamond industry vet Clark McEwen joined the company and change the distribution model to emulate that of natural diamond miners. The company now sells rough diamonds to polishing companies.

These diamonds are believed to one day take the place of the real diamonds and stop the flow of blood diamonds that flow in from many war torn countries.

Diamond Care

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Diamond came from the ancient word adámas which means unbreakable. It is an allotrope of carbon. Diamonds are hard but even it is there still a possibility for it to be damaged and need to be cared for the sparkling it has from the first day you buy it will last for many years.

Here are the possible way for the diamonds you owned will always look new even many years had already pass.

At no time, when you are performing a rough work or housework do not wear your diamond rings because even you are only washing plates can damage the settings of other diamonds.

When you are not wearing your diamond ring, you should placed them in a separate purse form from a soft fabric. It is to prevent the contact from each and don’t get damaged. But if it is possible, it is better to put that diamond jewelry  from the packaging where you first buy it.

The diamond ring should be neaten regularly to assure it’s brilliance.

In cleaning the diamond ring, the best way to do is to soak them in a bowl containing a lukewarm water added by a mild detergent powder. Use a smooth brush to gently take away the dirt from the diamond. After that, washed it off under running water and use a lint-free cloth when drying it off.

You should always keep your gold and silver chains, eternity or engagement ring, also your enamel jewelry, neat and shiny for them to always look new.
